HISTORY
The Foundation for Art & Design is a Delaware corporation founded in 2020. The organization was made possible by a generous gift from the estate of George Kendall Shaw (March 30, 1924 – October 18, 2019).
MISSION
The Foundation for Art & Design’s primary mission is to present national and international traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and publications. These will encompass a wide array of topics, bringing together different ideas and influences conveyed through the unique perspectives of art and design. In addition to its own curatorial work, The Foundation for Art & Design will present projects developed in collaboration with the artists, collectors, curators, galleries, publishers, and institutions that make up the art and design communities at large. Through its programming, The Foundation for Art & Design will attempt to encourage a greater understanding of cultural, historical, social, political, and environmental issues and how they manifest themselves in contemporary thinking and applications.
OUR WORK
The Foundation for Art & Design’s primary focus is on developing traveling exhibitions accompanying catalogs and programming. It can take years to assemble an exhibition. Hosting traveling exhibitions allows museums to display specialist programming that they may not be able to show otherwise. It also creates an opportunity to explore programming that expands their audience.
Along with creating exhibitions, the Foundation for Art & Design will create a unique exhibition layout for each museum, including workshops, panels, lectures, guided visits, customized press materials, exhibition catalogs, customized poster design, customized opening invitations, etc.
